What It Is All About!!

My eyes were truly opened yesterday! My friend had asked if I wanted to accompany her to a class, which was about learning how to make a Cob Oven. I thought it would be lovely to spend time with her, but was rather ho-hum about the lessons she was undertaking!

Early on this lovely Spring Sunday, we drove to a pretty little country town, and joined with about twenty other adults and children in the local "Community Garden."

I had never been to a place like this before, and from the start I was impressed! The setting was beautiful - a patch of land tucked away, among trees with fresh Spring leaves. Growing in the garden I could see a variety of vegetables, fruits and flowers. One little girl delighted me when she happily popped small tomatoes, one after the other, into her mouth(grown in the hot - house.)

Watching the Cob Oven taking shape was intriguing - it was the second class,(my friend had attended the week before.) The oven would be used to bake pitzas, and bread too I guessed, and perhaps other delectable food!

The people around me looked so enthused, as some of the locals tended the gardens, and the rest took part in the class. There was such a sense of Community!! People joining together in such a natural setting, and working in a way that each could participate.

For a while I stood back and simply watched ... but then I wanted to join in! I picked up a handful of wet mud clay, as I saw the others do, and I slapped it on the oven! I wasn't prepared for the joy that it gave me as I smoothed it into place!! I felt happy in that moment to be part of the group producing this work of art.

By the end of the session the 'Oven' had so much character, that it seemed to be a living thing. It wasn't just a project any more - it was a collection of ideas and creative energy.

It was then that I realized what true life is about. It is about people joining together in harmony, creating the things that interest them, and giving themselves pleasure, as well as each other! I cant wait to go back in a few weeks time to taste the pitzas we will be making! All from natural ingredients of course! And many others in the Community will benefit from this joint project!!

"What a way to go!!"
